The launch of the Aavegotchi Protocol’s flagship game, “The Gotchiverse,” has introduced plenty of new players to our project and community. This general FAQ is designed to help newcomers understand the basics.

What is Aavegotchi?
Aavegotchi is an open-source, community owned NFT gaming protocol, enabling true asset ownership for gamers. Aavegotchi NFTs are on-chain collectible ghosts staked with Aave’s interest-generating aTokens.
What Blockchain is Aavegotchi on?
Aavegotchi is deployed on Polygon, the leading side chain to Ethereum.
Is Aavegotchi an official Aave project? How much is Aave involved?
Aavegotchi is a recipient of an Aave Ecosystem Grant, but we are not an official Aave project. However, Aave has been extremely helpful and we’re in close contact with the team. In fact, Stani Kulechov, the founder of Aave, was our first advisor.
Are Aavegotchis On-Chain?
Absolutely. All metadata including name, traits, wearables, etc. are all 100% on-chain.
How do I get an Aavegotchi?
There are two ways to purchase an Aavegotchi. The first is to purchase a Portal during a new Haunt and then summon an Aavegotchi. The second is to head over to the Aavegotchi Baazaar, our secondary NFT marketplace, and either purchase a Portal or a summoned Aavegotchi.
There are currently no plans for a new haunt in the near future, but if the AavegotchiDAO decides there is demand for more Aavegotchis they could vote to start one. To stay up to date with the latest information on upcoming Haunts, join our community.
If you decide to purchase your first Aavegotchi through the Baazaar, you will need to decide if you want to purchase a Portal, and then summon your own Aavegotchi, or simply purchase an Aavegotchi that has already been summoned.
Purchasing an Aavegotchi that has already been summoned is easy. You simply exchange GHST for the Aavegotchi and begin taking care of it! If you choose to purchase a Portal, you will begin by exchanging GHST tokens for a Portal. Then go to app.aavegotchi.com/portals and select your Portal. If you purchased a closed Portal, you will need to open it. After it is opened, Chainlink VRF is engaged, ensuring the traits of each Aavegotchi within the Portal are verifiably random.
Once the Portal is opened you will have 10 Aavegotchis to choose from. Click the arrows to scroll through and review the traits on each one. Choose your Aavegotchi carefully and be sure to consider all factors such as rarity and aesthetics. You can only summon one Aavegotchi, the other nine will be burnt forever.
After you select which Aavegotchi you wish to summon, you will need to provide it with Spirit Force (staked collateral) to bring it to life. To do this, click the “get (type of spirit force)” button underneath the area that says “Amount to Stake.” From there, the Swapper Tool will appear and you will be able to swap GHST tokens for your required Spirit Force. Input the correct amount, click “Swap,” and then confirm the transaction and gas fees via your wallet. Once the transaction is confirmed you will click “Approve Transfer” and then “Claim With X Amount of specific Spirit Force”
After this transaction is confirmed you will see your new Aavegotchi in the “My Aavegotchis” tab. From here you will be able to name your Aavegotchi whatever you want and pet it for the first time!
Can Aavegotchis be traded/sold/bought?
Yes, you can buy and sell Aavegotchis on our secondary NFT marketplace, the Aavegotchi Baazaar. We have an Aavegotchi to Ethereum bridge allowing Aavegotchis to be bought and sold on L1 through marketplaces like Rarible.
Does Aavegotchi have a DAO?
From its onset, Aavegotchi has been governed by the AavegotchiDAO, via our GHST token, and later via the actual Aavegotchi NFT itself.
We have one of the most active DAOs in the world: vote.aavegotchi.com, and are one of the only NFT projects with “supply by consensus,” where the DAO decides how many Aavegotchi NFTs should exist.
What is The Gotchiverse?
The Gotchiverse is Pixelcraft Studio’s flagship title that celebrates the best of blockchain technology. The metaverse is built on the Aavegotchi Protocol, and is co-created with direct input from the community via AavegotchiDAO. Can I start playing for free?

How can I earn money?
With Aavegotchi and The Gotchiverse there are a number of ways to earn money. The Gotchiverse has four play-to-earn ERC-20 tokens known as Gotchus Alchemica. These tokens can be used to craft Installation NFTs within The Gotchiverse, or traded for GHST. Players can earn these tokens by channeling from the skies above, farming from below the surface of their land parcel, or by collecting it from the maps surface.
