Gotchiverse NFT Gaming Guilds: Metaguild

Table of Contents

The Aavegotchi enthusiasts at Metaguild have big plans for the Gotchiverse! They are frenly enough to give the GotchiGang a peek into their operation and some alpha on what their guild is all about.

Q. Can you give a brief introduction about your guild?

A. Aavegotchi is one of the reasons why a few frens summoned Metaguild. We started it as an organization that can manage personal assets in different games. Metaguild's founders have always been fascinated by digital ownership.

In 2019, when no one was talking about words such as “play-to-earn” and “NFT”, Sandro and Bakarapara launched a leading website around crypto gaming. In 2017, as a successful Hearthstone esports player, I watched Blizzard destroy my favorite game, that is when I realized that the gaming industry is ripe for disruption. After discovering Bitcoin in the same year, getting into the NFT space and web3 gaming was only a matter of time, or perhaps inevitable. Long story short, we founded Metaguild in early 2021, and our most dedicated members are gamers and professional players.

Q. What does the name “Metaguild” mean

A. It was Metaguild's third name, following “Haaunt”. We were looking for a more comprehensive name, and when we came across “Metaguild”, we recognized how well this name fits into what we do and what we stand for. Metaguild is more than just a guild – it’s a brotherhood and a team and it is open to everyone!

We absolutely love the “Metaguild” name. After the Facebook rebranding into Meta, we got an offer to sell our domain name However, it turned out that they didn’t have enough GHST. :)

Q. When did you join the Aavegotchi ecosystem and which other games are you participating in?

A. Metaguild is exceptionally selective about the games in which we participate. We don’t want to support games that take advantage of the industry. Nowadays, it’s challenging to recognize genuine builders like Aavegotchi. To inform Metaguild members, our team created a Metaverse database of games. Scouts and analysts gathered, rated, and contributed over 500 crypto-games to it!

You can tell from the database that we are involved in many games besides Aavegotchi, where we have been participating ever since the very early stages of game development when the exposure is at its largest. In card games like Cometh, Skyweaver, and Axie Infinity, Metaguild players are amongst the best and top-ranked. Seventeen creators under Metaguild Studio are tirelessly building in The Sandbox and redefining the voxel art genre. We are currently conquering the grand strategy wargame Mithraeum as the largest guild!

Q. How large is the guild right now? Are you actively expanding?

A. We are at 5,000 members. Currently, 250 of them are playing Aavegotchi and can borrow our assets. We’ve been focusing on the quality of our guild since its inception and these 5,000 members aren’t your average, run-of-the-mill guild member that you can find in other traditional guilds. Fighting with bots and multi-accounters is our daily duty where we regularly use the “Prune” feature in Discord and remove hundreds of accounts monthly. Recently, our guild became semi-private, implementing the native Discord join application process through our Metabot — ensuring the quality of the members that join our community.

Regarding the team, we currently have over 30 contributors, ten primarily full-time. And we are constantly in search of new talents! Please check our board – maybe you fit the “Meme Master” role!

Q. When would your guild decide to drop out of a game? Are there any criteria for that?

A. Metaguild shares the exact same core ideals as both the DAO and the Aavegotchi team, which transcends any form of monetary profit. This alone represents our key criterion for determining whether or not to be involved in a game. As long as this stands, we are in.

Q. With heavy competition in the market, what kind of splits are you currently working with?

A. Our current Alchemica split share gives players 30%. As far as I know, it is the best deal because all our Gotchis have very high kinship scores (including the invincible champion of all Rarity Farmings in the category). We could cut our expenses by hiring two people to care for Gotchis and Reservoirs as most guilds do, but we target long-term goals of building a large, educated, loyal guild of advanced players.

Q. As a guild, what is the most difficult thing you’ve ever encountered?

A. Metaguild’s biggest challenge as of yet has been the inexperience of its early team members in being leaders and managers. Truth be told, we’ve had our fair share of shortcomings. Conversely, most, if not all, mistakes can prove to be excellent learning opportunities. Thanks to our wonderful guild members who have always encouraged and supported us through it all.

Q. What aspect or feature of the Gotchiverse are you most excited for?

A. We are enthused by the Pixelcraft team's dedication to the project and their courage to experiment and move quickly. I much admire the second, however many may argue that the game lacks a clear vision for the same reason.

Regarding the game mechanics, I’m looking forward to the guild-vs-guild competition and mechanics for stealing Alchemica from other gotchis. Perhaps one day, we’ll see my favorite mechanic: vaporizing gotchis, in-game item utility, or other valuable assets in battles.

Q. How can players contact you about joining?

A. If you are a gotchi owner or wish to contribute to Metaguild, please use email or drop me a line on Discord (egor#1111).

If you want to become a Metaguild member, hop into our Discord and complete the verification process (the one I mentioned earlier). Send /aavegotchi command to Metabot on our server to be included in the borrowing whitelist.

Q. What does Metaguild’s Aavegotchi asset allocation roughly look like? (Gotchis, land, etc.)

A. Metaguild, like the rest of the market, got overly enthusiastic about the Gotchiverse release, resulting in the overexposure of Parcels coupled with scarcity in Gotchis and Wearables. We’ve started rebalancing our portfolio, but the current market is remarkably illiquid. I hope to see an offers feature in the upcoming big update of the Aavegotchi website – it should help a bit and make the Baazaar more active.

Q. Any big guild events planned?

A. We can’t disclose any big events, but we are hosting regular events in the guild, such as community calls and open mic events.

Q. Which is more important: Fun or Profit Generation?

A. The primary objective is to have fun. But stakes, risks, and potential profit leverage fun in games.

Q. Is guild decision making decentralized, or do leaders/high ranking members lead the way?

A. We haven’t decided on the right path for Metaguild yet. There are pitfalls and advantages to both options. I envision Metaguild tokenized and truly community-owned, yet with trusted and capable leaders. Please contact us if you have suggestions or a clear visualization of which path we should choose.

Q. How would you describe your guild’s Gotchiverse strategy in just one word?

A. Spreadsheets!
