Orium Guild has made a lot of noise lately with the launch of their new petting operator. They sat down with us and gave us some insight on how they run things and their thoughts on the future of the Gotchiverse!

Questions

Q. Can you please give a brief introduction about your guild and team?

A. Orium Guild is the investment arm of Orium Network, which focuses on acquiring and lending NFTs across different metaverses. The Guild wasfounded in July, 2021 and today has more than 1,000 Scholars, 5,000 NFTs and operates across four different games.

Q. Where did the name of your guild originate?

A. The founders initially decided to go with Orion, as the constellation represents an exciting and futuristic world, which for us was the definition of the metaverse. However, someone misspelled "Orium" instead of "Orion", and that quickly spread before anyone raised the issue. By that point, we had a good laugh and decided that Orium would be a more original choice.

Q. When did you join the Aavegotchi ecosystem and which other games are you participating in?

A. The Guild officially joined Aavegotchi in March, 2022 with the launch of the Gotchiverse. Through our partnership with the GotchiVault, we were the most active community in the Gotchiverse (in terms of alchemica collected). Our community is also very active in Fancy Birds, Pegaxy, and Axie Infinity.

Q. How large is your guild right now? Are you actively expanding?

A. We have around 1,000 players that actively borrow NFTs, and we are expanding in different games. Regarding Aavegotchi specifically, the game is evolving at such a fast pace that we decided to take a step back to re-evaluate our strategy. We are taking advantage of the bear market to buy Aavegotchis, but our focus right now is on building non-custodial services for the community, which will be available at the Orium Network Platform.

Q. What have been the biggest challenges lately?

A. Our biggest challenge has always been managing a large Guild operation with thousands of members and NFTs. When lending NFTs, borrowers are just random Ethereum addresses, and not much information can be extracted from that. For this reason, we are working on a Know-Your-Scholar tool that is planned to launch later this year (oops, did we just drop an alpha?).

Q. What aspect or feature of the Gotchiverse are you most excited for?

A. Definitely PVP gameplay. The current state of the game only allows players to extract Alchemica, but it's necessary to bring utility to all these tokens through in-game sinks. Our hope is that the Aarena launch will be the first step in this direction.

Q. How can players join you?

A. We currently have two Discord communities. Orium Guild focuses on recruiting new players to borrow NFTs and Orium Network focuses on awareness of our non-custodial services. The best way to join is by jumping on the Discords and asking around.

Q. Do you offer incentives or competitions for players beyond an established profit split?

A. Absolutely. We run tournaments every couple of months, and top-performing players receive extra tokens or additional NFTs to play.

Q.  What do you like most about Aavegotchi?

A. Decentralized and open-source, the core pillars of blockchains. Aavegotchi is one of the most active DAOs in the crypto community, and it's an example to be followed in terms of transparency.

Q. Where do you see NFT Gaming in the next year?

A. Blockchain games are transitioning from play-to-earn to play and earn. Although the semantics may seem silly, the change represents a big shift in the ecosystem goals. The mission is no longer to give users as many in-game items as possible but to provide high quality gaming experiences while rewarding users for their time and performance.

Q. Is your guild decision making decentralized, or do leaders/high ranking members lead the way?

A. We have leadership that leads the way. We are not as big as we would like to be in order to benefit from decentralization.

Q. What do you think the “guild ecosystem” in general is lacking at the moment?

A. The Guild ecosystem is lacking focus on its community. A lot of Guilds made bank in 2021 with the crazy hike in NFT prices, and that has become the focus for many ecosystem participants, with some Guilds even becoming "NFTs investment funds". Guilds were born as communities in the metaverse, and their role is to educate as many people as possible and to provide a smooth onboarding experience into web3.
